Celebrating the amazing PYP learning journey

On April 12th, our corridors buzzed with energy, enthusiasm and excitement as our Grade 5 students  showcased  their learning journey to their fellow students, parents and visitors at the PYP Exhibition 2023. The PYP Exhibition marks a significant milestone in the life of a PYP student. As a culminating experience, in the final year of PYP,  the event provides students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of real-world local and global issues. It involves an independent yet collaborative inquiry by students, which displays their competence, responsibility for their own learning, and a comprehensive understanding of all of the elements of the PYP.

At the exhibition, our students of Grade 5 explored the theme “Sharing the Planet’ through various activities and forms of expression such as Poster making, Educational games, Art integration, Oral presentations and Performances. Backed by teachers, parents and mentors, all our students actively took part in the various aspects of the exhibition, including planning, inquiring, investigating, and sharing their learning with the school community. They investigated the impact of different kinds of solid waste such as e-waste, medical waste, agricultural waste, food waste and textile waste on the environment and discussed the actions that need to be taken for effective waste management to create a more equitable and sustainable world.  We sincerely appreciate the parents and teachers whose constant support to our kids, unparalleled effort, dedication and commitment made the exhibition a huge success!

Theory of Knowledge (ToK) exhibition: Demonstrating how ToK manifests itself in the real world

The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) exhibition for the Batch of May 2024 was held on 30th March 2023. The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibition is an Internal Assessment (IA) component based on the IB requirement for Diploma students. For this component, students are required to create an exhibition that explores how TOK manifests in the world around us. This component is internally assessed by the teacher and externally moderated by the IB at the end of the course.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Mrs. Sheila Alexander, Principal, GSIS. Each student presented three objects connected to one out of thirty-five IA prompts and based their exhibition on one of the TOK themes. The objects varied from the religious thread to a laptop. The visitors gained new insights regarding the variety of perspectives, ways of development of knowledge, and types of knowledge.

Learning through Play: Recreation Room for PYP Kids

In the Primary Years Programme (PYP), play is one of the four guiding principles that aids creative learning. Play-based learning fosters 21st century skills such as problem solving, collaboration and creativity and is an integral aspect of a child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Unstructured play helps children develop nurturing relationships, permits them to construct knowledge rather than rote learn content, and enhances focus and academic skills as they participate in hands-on, student-led learning. To enhance the learning experience of our students, we have introduced a newly designed recreational room for our young PYP learners. Our recreational room has a variety of board games, dartboards, Lego sets, racing tracks, hopscotch game and much more which creates a stimulating and inviting learning space for our kids.  The recreational room at GSIS provides the perfect learning space for our students to thrive and grow to be global citizens.
