Introducing the School Mascot!

Introducing the School Mascot

We are thrilled to announce that we are now the “Home of the GSIS Tahrs!

GSIS is proud to introduce the Nilgiri Tahr as our school Mascot, and as we begin the new AY 2023-24, GSIS students will represent the school in all sporting events as the GSIS Tahrs.

Why the Tahr?

Well, the Nilgiri Tahr is an animal indigenous to the Nilgiris District and is the State animal of Tamil Nadu. It is known for its sure-footedness, creative energy, fearlessness, the spirit of adventure, curiosity, ambition and resilience. The introduction of Nilgiri Tahr reflects our sporty, adventurous and athletic spirit and our relentless pursuit of excellence.

We have begun to work with a design team in Coimbatore to create a line of sports clothing and accessories to showcase our new mascot – we look forward to introducing the students to our new sports logo on our indoor courts, in our sports fields and all over the school to raise school spirit and a sense of belonging to the Home of the Tahrs!

To give you a sneak peek into the new mascot, we are attaching some pictures of the GSIS Tahrs – we are still in development so there is a lot more to come, but we want to introduce it early to the GSIS community so we can get the momentum and spirit of our school teams. We hope you will all enjoy and appreciate the design.

Our first opportunity to don the uniform of the GSIS Tahrs will be in the new AY when we start competing in inter-school sporting events. To give you a first pick of the new line of clothing with the GSIS Tahrs, we are doing a soft launch with a t-shirt and one hoodie that will be available for purchase at the Athletic meet 2023. There will be more Tahrs merchandise to come in the next few months as we develop this line.
